We are proud to have been in the plumbing business as a family for THREE GENERATIONS. My father (Morris E. Sunkel) started Sunkel Plumbing and Heating back in 1955. He had a dream of providing plumbing and heating service to the residents of Bloomington -Normal - Mclean County. He had been a builder of new homes prior to obtaining a Master Plumbers Lic. at the very beginning of the states requirements, to be licensed in Illinois. I (Morris R. Sunkel} started officially in June of 1964. Although I had helped in the summer and, after school most of my teen years. Some of you remember our variety store in Bloomington at 1004 W. Market Street across from the former Baumgarts Coal & Lumber store. There we sold dime store and, hardware type commodities as well as based the Sunkel Plumbing Business out of the office there. When my dad got wind of a store called K-Marts and that it was going to start a store in Bloomington, He saw the handwriting on the wall and promptly sold the store. He was an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal and knew we couldn't compete with a large corp. Sunkel Plumbing and Heating Continued Until his death in 1966. It was several years before I could restart the business again and continue with his legacy. Hard work, a prayer, and a few years later I was able to start up again. Jason Sunkel my son also works as a plumber and is an integral part of the business. He started working with me in the summertime and after school. Similar to how I had worked for my dad. He has helped in the business since about 1992. Completed his apprenticeship and later obtained his Journeyman lic. and been working for me ever since. This is truly one my life's greatest pleasures for me. He has turned into a fine young man and a extremely qualified Plumber (do I sound like a father, yet?) Our philosophy is still to serve Bloomington - Normal - Mclean County with honor and integrity. Providing our customers with great plumbing.
